What if I have a self-insured health plan? What is ERISA? Why can't the state department of insurance help me?

The Indiana Department of Insurance regulates the business of health insurance in Indiana. If an employer chooses to self-fund or self-insure its employee health plan, the state department of insurance usually does not have authority over that plan. These types of employee welfare benefit plans are directed by the U.S. Department of Labor under the Employee Retirement and Income Security Act (ERISA). Contact the Department of Labor's Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration for more information.
