What do my property taxes pay for?

Property taxes are primarily used to fund services delivered at the local level.  In most cases, the majority of your property taxes are allocated to the school system in your area.  But libraries, parks, law enforcement, fire departments, emergency services, even cemetery maintenance and upkeep, are just a few of the other services that your local government provides.  With a few small exceptions, property taxes do not fund programs or services provided by state government.
