Are all historical markers from the Historical Bureau?

No. Many shapes and sizes of historical marker exist in Indiana. The official format of the Indiana State Historical Marker is distinguished by the outline of the state of Indiana in the crest at the top. All markers in the State format are the property of Indiana Historical Bureau and unauthorized use of this format/design is prohibited by Indiana Code 4-23-7.2-11(a). County and local marker programs are not regulated by IHB, though any historical sign planned for state right-of-way must be authorized by the agency before placement.
