If you are not sure of the whereabouts of your spouse, you will have to consult the Indiana Rules of Trial Procedure for information on "service by publication." The Rules can be found at http://www.in.gov/judiciary/rules/trial_proc/.

Service by publication is the method you may have to use to make a reasonable attempt to notify your spouse that a divorce action is pending. Using this process, you will have to contact an appropriate newspaper to publish the notice. Most newspapers are familiar with this process, so you should carefully follow the instructions they give.
