What do I do if I receive a disconnection notice from one of my utilities?

If you receive a written disconnection notice, call the utility immediately to discuss the reasons for the notice and to make payment arrangements. One of the most frequent mistakes a consumer can make is to wait until the day of the disconnection to seek help. At that point, it may be too late to prevent services from being shut off. The OUCC’s Disconnection fact sheet offers a summary of rights and responsibilities for customers of regulated utilities.
