If a municipal utility withdraws from IURC jurisdiction, who regulates it?
Municipal utilities and their rates are regulated by locally elected city and town councils. Indiana law exempts municipal sewer utilities from Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) jurisdiction, while giving municipal water, electric and gas utilities the ability with withdraw from IURC oversight. More than 90 percent have done so. For more info, please visit http://www.in.gov/oucc/2720.htm.
