How do I find out if a well on my property is being actively produced?

To determine whether a well is actively producing, the first contact you should make is with the well owner or operator.  They can advise you whether a well is currently producing or offer an explanation as to why it might not be active at the moment.

If you are unable to contact the well owner or operator, contact the Division of Oil and Gas at (317) 232-4055. You can also use the Contact Oil & Gas link on the Division of Oil and Gas web page to view a directory of Oil and Gas employees. Providing us with the specific location of the well will greatly help us identify the well and the name and address of the responsible owner. If necessary, we can schedule an inspection to determine its status and ensure the well is being operated and maintained according to the state law requirements
